We finally got our new car today, it's a Hyundai Getz. We picked it up after work. It's a little sad to get rid of the old car but it was getting more and more unreliable - it stalled on the highway yesterday, while it was moving. I was glad I always keep a big distance behind other cars because once it stalls the power brakes go out too. I knew to leave it for a few moments before trying to start up - just after I got it started a nice young man on a motorbike pulled up to see if I needed help.
It felt so weird driving the new car - can't see the bonnet because of the slope. I asked the Angels for protection. On my old car I envisaged an Angel sitting on the bonnet like a big hood ornament, all I could think of was that it would slide off the steep bonnet, it now sits on the roof. It's a comforting feeling.
At every red light I explored the dashboard, working out what the switches were and setting the radio. I had been a little worried about driving it home in traffic but I handled it well, driving the 40 kms home from the car yard, avoiding the worst of the traffic. We got the car near to where I used to work, David drove home the more direct route via Parramatta Road and the Motorway. I have a couple of alternate routes I take depending on traffic reports. I took a longer, less direct route leaving just before him, I pulled into the carpark at my old job to see if my boss was there and also pulled over once on the way home and arrived moments after him .
